The Editors’ Weekly Welcomes New Editorial Team

Dear readers,

We’re so pleased to announce Laura Bontje as the new managing editor of The Editors’ Weekly. A freelance editor in London, Ont., Laura specializes in fiction editing, with a particular focus on children’s literature. She is also the author of the forthcoming picture books Was It a Cat I Saw? (Amicus Ink, 2024) and When the Air Sang (Annick Press, 2025).

Laura has been an exemplary proofreader and social media coordinator for the blog for the past two years, as well as a blog contributor. In her previous role, she brought an eye for detail and conscious language, as well as contributing to the blog’s editorial calendar with the addition of posts related to the publishing industry. Last month, she co-presented “Introduction to Picture Book Editing” with S. Robin Larin at Editors 23: Editors In Real Life, at Toronto Metropolitan University.

We also welcome Emily Lam to the blog team as proofreader and social media coordinator.

Emily is a medical and scientific editor in Toronto, Ont., with an interest in plain language, digital accessibility and health equity. She was one of this year’s recipients of the Editors Canada Equity Fellowships. Emily is also the Editors Canada liaison to the joint Academic Editing Chapter hosted by the Editorial Freelancers Association and Editors Canada.

Congratulations to Laura and Emily, and many thanks to Beau Brock for all his contributions this past year as managing editor for the blog.
