It’s #ThrowbackThursday! The Editors’ Weekly archives are a treasure trove of valuable advice and insight, so we’re kicking off a brand-new series to highlight some of our favourite gems from the past.
Are you looking for a way to make your editorial voice heard in today’s saturated digital landscape? You may want to consider audio content!
Today, we’re featuring Louise Harnby’s September 2020 post Listen Up! The Opportunity in Audio. This efficient guide breaks down the basic tools you will need to start creating audio content and provides several compelling reasons to turn on the mic.
Louise practices what she preaches. The Editing Podcast, which she cohosts with Denise Cowle, boasts 84,000 unique listeners across 175 countries. Despite her busy schedule, she was kind enough to provide us with an update to her original piece:
It’s been six years since I wrote this article. The advice still stands, and I’m still creating audio content! If there’s one thing I’d say now that I didn’t say then, it would be: repurpose.
In 2025, Denise and I turned 100 podcast episodes into a themed book series, Notes from the Podcast. Why? Because people want to learn in different ways at different times. And our audience does love the written word.
I encourage you to think about how you might turn your own audio content into something else — articles, books, checklists, fact sheets, videos, slide decks, conference sessions … whatever you think your audience will engage with and benefit from.
Best wishes,
Louise
