Our 2026 Articles Wishlist

Person with short curly hair, wearing a red shirt with a white collar, holding a huge life-sized pen.

Welcome to 2026! Here at The Editors’ Weekly, a brand new year means planning a whole year’s worth of new blog posts. We’re always looking for more contributors to represent the wide experiences and diversity of Editors Canada members, so if you’ve never contributed before, or want to write for us again, we’d love to hear from you! Writing for the blog is a great way to connect with fellow editors to shape our community conversations about editing and language. It’s also an opportunity to showcase your unique talents and expertise.

Not sure what to write about? We’ve prepared a wishlist of topics we’d like to see articles about this year to help you get started:

  • Editorial niches: Detective fiction, cookbooks, puzzles, graphic novels; the number of editorial niches can seem endless. Share any tips you have on editing your particular niche.
  • The business of editing: Freelance editing gives you the freedom to choose your clients and set your hours, but it also presents unique challenges, such as learning how to attract new clients, set rates and manage the administrative tasks of a small business. Let us know how you manage these challenges or share new tips, tricks or tools.
  • Advice to your past self: Starting a new career is always full of unexpected challenges. Is there something you wish you’d known when you were first starting out as an editor?
  • Editing, now and then: How has the editing profession changed over the years and what does it mean to be an editor in 2025? What new ideas and tools have you incorporated in your current work as an editor that you didn’t in the past?
  • Multilingualism and editing: If you speak multiple languages, how has that affected your approach to your editing work?
  • What’s on my desk? A new series on the Editors’ Weekly where we take a peek at the workspaces of our contributors. Do you have strong opinions on the ideal monitor setup or ergonomic keyboards? Do you absolutely need noise-cancelling headphones to get your work done? We want to hear about it.

If you want to contribute a post on any of the topics in our wishlist, or if you have another idea that you don’t see represented here, let us know! You can send us an email at blog@editors.ca or send a message via the website.

  • These are all great topics, and I plan to respond to some of them. It’s always good to see what colleagues think and do to be better at our craft, and the Editor’s Weekly is an excellent resource for such input. Thank you!

The multilingualism and editing angle is interesting because that’s not something you see covered much, even though so many editors work across languages or bring that perspective to their English editing work.
